::: My Mentoring Session @ JAIPUR :::

Mentoring Session Pix

It is always an awesome experience to connect and interact with the Budding Entrepreneurs and Start-Ups, Be it Speaking at the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) Delhi University Or being on the Panel of Trusted Mentor of TrackNext.Com.

This time the opportunity was at Jaipur, the Pink City. I was invited by the City Mayor of Entrepreneur Cafe for a Mentoring Session with the Jaipur’s Budding Entrepreneurs and Start-Ups.

It was great to see around 15-17 people turned up for the Mentoring Session. Few of the participants were aspiring to be an Entrepreneur and rest others had already started with their Entrepreneurial Journey.

Some of the Start-Ups present at the Mentoring Session at Jaipur were Rugs by India, Dream Soft Technologies, Deals for Bulk, Venture Era Technical Solutions Pvt Ltd, Powtoon Pro, Boon Toon.Com, The Dream Square etc.

When we talk about Cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore here the exposure is more and the opportunities are more for the budding entrepreneurs as compared to their counterparts in Tier-II and Tier-III Cities.

I was very excited to see the enthusiasm to learn and grow among the participants at the mentoring session; they were ready to explore every opportunity to learn and that was the happiest thing for me.

A lot of work is being done at the Entrepreneurial Eco-System at Jaipur for the Start-Up Community, Be It the Entrepreneur Café Meet, Events by TiE Jaipur or Start-Up Saturdays, which is a Good Sign.

The Session I was invited for Mentoring was about “How to Select a Right Business Model”. We started with a quick round of introduction and then I shared My Experience with the group that How, at one point of time, we got stuck with our business and We had to Change our Business Model to get the things going for us. (I would elaborate on this in a different post)

Later we discussed about the Current Business Model like:

  • Brick and Mortar Sales Model
  • Brick and Click Model
  • Direct Sales Model
  • Bait and Hook Model
  • Franchising
  • Freemium Business Model
  • Subscription Model
  • Pay As You Go Model
  • Fee In Free Out

My take on selecting the Right Business Model with the group was that “There is No Right or Wrong Business Model, The Business Model is Evolving with the Need Every day.” I asked them to be very clear and have focus with these Four Important Aspects:

  • Customer / Consumer : Who will be your End User
  • Product /Service : What Problem it will be solving
  • Market : What will be your market
  • Competitor : Know about your Competitor in the Market, Try to Innovate on what they are doing

As an Entrepreneur we come across a lot of new things, I emphasize very much on jotting down the things as they come. If it is written it is solid and can be referred to in the future.

Then we discussed about the Business Model Canvas (BMC). BMC is a Strategic Management and Entrepreneurial Tool. The BMC has questions to help the Start-Ups to structure product ideas in their quest for the New Business Models.

I asked all the participants to fill the BMC with whatever information is available with them and keep referring it on a regular basis.

The Mentoring Session ended with a quick round of Q & A along with the exchange of the Business Cards. I would like to appreciate Entrepreneur Café for the Initiative.

– – – A Wonderful Story With A Powerful Lesson – – –

A German once visited a temple under
construction where he saw a sculptor making an idol of God…

Suddenly he noticed a similar idol lying nearby…
Surprised, he asked the sculptor, “Do you
need two statues of the same idol?”
“No,” said the sculptor
without looking up, “We need only one, but the first one got damaged at the last stage…”

The gentleman
examined the idol and found no apparent damage…

“Where is the damage?” he asked.
“There is a scratch on the nose of the idol.” said the sculptor, still
busy with his work….

“Where are you going to install the idol?”

The sculptor replied that it would be
installed on a
pillar twenty feet high…

“If the idol is that far who is going to know that there is a scratch on the nose?”
the gentleman asked.

The sculptor stopped work, looked up at the gentleman, smiled and said,

The Desire To Excel Is Exclusive Of The Fact Whether Someone Else Appreciates It Or Not….

“Excellence” Is A
Drive From Inside, Not Outside….

Excellence Is Not For
Someone Else To Notice But For Your Own Satisfaction And Efficiency.
