The season premiere of “Glee” on Sunday night, airing in the US, was the show’s best-selling episode since its first airing in 2014, according to Nielsen SoundScan data.
The “Gleem” soundtrack, which has sold over two million copies, also became the second most-sold music album in history behind Beyoncé’s “Lemonade.”
The song has been the most-charted music song in the U.S. since its release, according the Nielsen Soundscan data, with sales reaching nearly a billion units since its debut in 2017.
A number of songs on the album are also nominated for the Grammy Awards, including “Can’t Hold Us,” which has been nominated for three times.
“Glee’s” third season premiered in October, and the show had the highest viewership in six seasons for an NBC drama.
The show has also received critical praise from critics.
In an analysis of the series’ finale, Variety said it was “a remarkable achievement for an HBO drama.”
“Gleeme” has also earned a Golden Globe nomination, as well as an Emmy Award nomination for best supporting actress.
The network has been pushing for an “American Idol”-style competition to be held in the United States to test the viability of the “Glese” theme.
“The idea is to have this really, really, big competition where the best music in the world is voted for by the world’s best music artists, not just by the artists themselves, but by a panel of experts,” Entertainment Weekly’s Jeff Bewkes told The Associated Press.
“The best song on the radio, the best song in front of a TV audience, the music that people really love, we want to have that in the competition.”
The Glee franchise is owned by Warner Bros. Television, which also owns “The Office,” “Scandal,” “Parks and Recreation,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “Arrested Development,” “Family Guy,” “Criminal Minds,” “American Dad,” “Law & Order,” “Superstore,” “Dexter,” “Madam Secretary,” “Breaking Bad,” “Bones,” “Chicago Fire,” “Nashville,” “Game of Thrones,” “True Detective,” “Empire,” “Homeland,” “Downton Abbey,” “Westworld,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Harry Potter,” “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Star Trek: The Original Series,” “Lucky 7,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” “Transformers: The Last Knight,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Uncharted: The Lost Legacy,” “Zootopia,” “Suits,” “Black Panther,” “Legion” and “The Walking Dead: Season 5” are the most recent to be renewed for a third season.
